Singer Micheline Van Hautem, bass trombonist Jos Jansen and Brassband Rijnmond have presented the audience in Theater Walhalla in Rotterdam with a wonderful evening.
In the first part of the program, Brass Band Rijnmond played exclusively works by Dutch composers, who performed the diversity of music styles of the brass band repertoire. Conductor Chris Derikx gave expert text and explanation to the audience in the completely filled theater. Beautiful, older compositions by Meindert Boekel and Jan Stuckart were played. In addition, a new composition by Rijnmond's bassist Stefan de Hoogt was performed. The audience appreciated this spectacular and rousing piece, "Sword-Dance", with tremendous applause.
The second part of the evening consisted of the premiere of the new performance "Shaffy & Brass" On the basis of beautiful anecdotes and an interpretation of his unforgettable chansons, the Flemish singer Micheline Van Hautem paid tribute to one of the Netherlands' most famous chansonniers and life artists of the last century, Ramses Shaffy. In her very own way she managed to enchant the audience with her enthusiastic presentation and singing. Nostalgic songs such as "Sammy", "We will continue" and "Pastorale" were performed with the accompaniment of Brassband Rijnmond. Led by Micheline, the audience could sing or hum the "We will continue" to their heart's content. The audience reacted very enthusiastically and enjoyed it to the fullest.
Bass trombonist Jos Jansen was a nice change in the program with his beautiful trombone playing. He delighted the audience with his solos and duet with Micheline.
Partly due to the ambiance in the theater and the infectiously flamboyant presentation of Micheline Van Hautem, the soloists and Brassband Rijnmond were inspired to a top performance and the audience rewarded the artists with a standing ovation. It was a wonderful evening that will not soon be forgotten!
