The band was founded in 1978 by a number of members of the former Brassband Rotterdam. It soon became clear that Brassband Rijnmond had musical potential. Under the direction of the 1st conductor Paul Kirby and later Danny Oosterman, several successes were already accomplished within the first 5 years of its existence. In the early years, there was a successful participation in the Vara's Brassband Festival and the KNF (top) competitions.

During its existence, the band has been led by a number of very renowned and skilled conductors, such as Danny Oosterman, Jaap Koops, Lambert Nijven, George Wiegel, Anno Appelo, Erik Janssen, Ivan Meylemans and Erik van de Kolk. The band participated almost annually in the Dutch Brassband Championshup and -in its early years after 1982 - delivered reasonable to good performances. A second place was achieved at the Dutch Brassband Championships in 1985. Partly because of this result, the band participated in the European Brassband Championships in Cardiff (Wales)in 1986. Rijnmond achieved a very admirable 6th place in Cardiff.
From 2004 onwards, a successful period started for the band. Good concerts were organized and interesting and appealing CDs were recorded. Under the leadership of Erik Janssen, the band took the Dutch championship trophy for the first time in the history of Brassband Rijnmond in 2004, which allowed the band to call itself champion of the Netherlands. This success was the crowning achievement of band members and conductor. A historic highlight for the band was the performance during the European Brassband Championships in Groningen in 2005. Here a very nice 5th place was achieved in a competitive field of the best European Brassbands.

The championship success was repeated again in the year 2008. In this year, the band was led by Ivan Meylemans (with Anno Appelo as rehearsal conductor) and became champion of the Netherlands for the second time. Brassband Rijnmond became a band that achieved not only national but also international success.
At the EBC in Ostend in April 2009, a very appealing 4th place was achieved. And not to forget: Brassband Rijnmond became French Open champion 3 times in a row in the beautiful town of Amboise. The band's last gala concert in Amboise was also an exceptional experience for members, conductor and audience. During this concert, performances were played up to half past midnight in a packed and very warm room. The audience was very enthusiastic about the performance of Brassband Rijnmond and couldn't get enough of it.

After saying goodbye to Ivan, the thread was picked up again by Anno Appelo. With Anno Appelo the band already had a strong connection, as he was a repetitor of the band. Meanwhile, alongside Anno, the young and very enthusiastic Erik van de Kolk has been appointed to Brassband Rijnmond. Under his leadership, several successes have been achieved, including the win at the French Open in 2014 and twice the win at the Dutch Open Brassband Championships in 2015 and 2016. Since May 2023, the band has been led by Luc Vertommen.
