Dik van Doorn – Mister Rijnmond
Brassband Rijnmond was founded in 1978. At the very first rehearsal there was a 16-year-old boy on principal: Dik van Doorn. He stayed there for 30 years without interruption! After that he took on various other positions in the interest of the band. For a very difficult solo at the EBK in Oostende temporarily to the flugelhorn, then back to principal, assistant principal to give young talent a chance, a few more years 'do is gek' on escornet. After a fall from the stairs reintegrated in the backrow. Back to flugel for a while and back to the backrow. This is illustrative of the flexibility of this man. Averse to airs and graces, everything for his band. He has an unparalleled brass band CV, known in the Netherlands and far beyond!
Dik is a very special musician. He has a very characteristic playing style with which he managed to impress the audience in many halls. The trumpet players of KCO (Peter Masseurs) and RPhO (Ad van Zon) were also very impressed by Dik's cornet playing. For me, Dik was and is a great source of inspiration! I still practice every day to approach his sound, a project without end 😊
The list of concerts that Dik has given with Rijnmond is also endless! Almost 40 NBKs, soon the 6th EBK and performances throughout half of Europe, where he was also regularly heard as a soloist. This is just a small selection from his CV. If you want to know more: Dik can tell stories just as well as he can play the cornet.
In addition to his musical qualities, Dik is also a real club man. Every Wednesday he eats at Riet's, and then takes her to the rehearsal. When his buddy Jan Louter passed away, he gave an impressive speech at the funeral. In addition, Dik is always up for fun and some craziness. He is the initiator of the initiation ritual that all new band members (and conductors) undergo during the annual study weekend.
What Dik means to our band cannot be summed up in words. We are extremely proud that we will be making music with him tomorrow and that he has been loyal to Rijnmond for so long. That is why the board has decided to appoint Dik as an honorary member of our association.
