Singer Micheline Van Hautem and bass trombonist Jos Jansen, accompanied by Brassband Rijnmond, made one big celebration of recognition of their concert with Ramses Shaffy repertoire on September 16th during the Lingehaven concert in Gorinchem.
Despite the rainy weather, the crowd that came in droves was treated to a beautiful concert in the picturesque Lingehaven against an enchanting decor. The concert had a very special ambiance due to the special location of the stage and the atmospheric lighting and smoke in the historic harbor. Perhaps partly because of this, there was a large audience that was not disturbed by the occasional rain shower.
Before the break, Brassband Rijnmond opened the program with original brass band compositions from Dutch soil. After dazzling opening works “Match-Rhythm” by Jan Bosveld and “Capriccio” by Jack Trombey, the band made an impression with a beautifully subdued work by composer Henk van Lijnschoten, “Painted in Jugendstil”. Then followed the classic “Three Inventions” by Pi Scheffer and the big band-like “Amsterdam Brass Medley” by Joan Reinders. The program ended with the exciting “Pasmo” by New Cool Collective in an arrangement by Titus and Klaas van der Woude. It was clear that a brass band can also sound like a real big band! The audience appreciated the performance with warm applause.
After the intermission, Flemish singer Micheline Van Hautem took the audience on a journey through the extensive repertoire of life artist Ramses Shaffy. Accompanied by Brassband Rijnmond, unforgettable life songs by Shaffy were performed, such as “Sammy”, “We will continue” and “Sing, fight, cry...”. The public enjoyed. The renowned bass trombonist Jos Jansen was also heard. He enchanted the audience with his beautiful sound and humor. Jos was put in the spotlight during the concert because it was his birthday and very appropriately treated by Belgian Micheline to delicious Belgian beers.
The concert was a great success and the band thanks the organization for the invitation and the perfect organization. Brassband Rijnmond enjoyed this beautiful event and is honored to have once again successfully collaborated with the dynamic duo Micheline Van Hautem and Jos Jansen.
We are curious about the next musical project of these champs!
