The well-known conductor of the Cory Band, Philip Harper, was a guest at Brassband Rijnmond last Wednesday evening. He is a very very appealing guest who is currently conducting the best brass band in the world. With his his excited and driven personality, Philip spoke passionately about his tenure at the Cory Band and his musical vision.
The members of the band asked him everything they wanted to know about all things brass band. Philip said that the Cory Band did not have a single live performance for a year and that they miss this enormously. He indicated that he had been quite active virtually with the Cory Band in the past year and that he himself had taken the initiative for this with a number of specialists within the band. The lock-down also had a positive aspect for him: Philip turned out to have been busy composing during this period. A number of new compositions are to be expected soon. In addition, Philip had time to pick up his tenor horn again and he regularly played in the brass bands of his conducting wife and music-making sons (back when it was still possible ...).
Afterwards, it was clear that the Cory Band's position at the top of the brass band world has been no coincidence, given that Philip is conducting the band. Brassband Rijnmond thanks Philip for his candid and exceptionally educational stories that gave our members and the conductor even more motivation to get back to work in due course!
