On Saturday, March 11, 2023, Brassband Rijnmond (conductor Chris Derikx) recorded the spectacular and demanding Concerto for Euphonium “Stratos” by the English composer Jonathan Bates with euphonium player Rodin Rosendahl.
This composition will be released on Rodin's first solo CD and depicts a space journey containing all the features of the universe. Sometimes subdued and lyrical as a representation of the tranquil view of the earth from the vast space, then again overwhelming, as meteorites and comets whizzing past, with virtuoso solo passages that were performed in an unparalleled manner by the soloist. This work was originally composed for the renowned English euphonium giant David Childs. Rodin Rosendahl once joined Brassband Rijnmond as a talented, 17-year-old musician, and has since grown into one of the best euphonium players in the Netherlands. Rodin is a euphonium player at the Marine Chapel of the Royal Netherlands Navy, as a teacher at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and is an Adams Euphonium Artist. The sound direction during the recordings was in the hands of Jo Smeets and Johan Smeulders, also a former member of Brassband Rijnmond and at the time Rodin's 'brother-in-arms' on euphonium.
Brass band Rijnmond looks back with pleasure and pride on this beautiful recording day, the cordial reunion with its former members and is looking forward to the end result.
