In a warm but crowded church with an enthusiastic audience, Brassband Rijnmond showed and heard his best side again. The “Nazomer Samenzang” organized by Mart and Coby van Buuren was a great success.
Under the leadership of Anno Appelo, Brassband Rijnmond played the beautiful “Meditation - The Light of the World” by Dean Goffin and cheerful pieces such as “Make His Praise Glorious” by the Salvation Army and “Joshua beats the battle of Jericho” (a arrangement) by Dennis Armitage played. After the break the band started with “Joy, Peace and Happiness” by Richard Philips. Here all sections were in the spotlight separately and the audience could listen carefully to the band's various timbres.
The public could also enjoy the sounds of the church's beautiful organ. Organist Reinier Kroos played a number of beautiful improvisations and together with singer Cees den Hollander the song “Silence over all countries” was performed.
But as the title of the concert suggests, the evening was of course all about singing together. Under the direction of Alan Gibson, the almost 400-strong choir sang along at the top of their lungs with a number of carefully selected psalms and hymns, accompanied by both the organ and the brass band.
Brassband Rijnmond closed the concert with “Shine Down” and the march “The Champions” to loud applause.
Brassband Rijnmond looks back on a fantastic start to this season and will now head full speed ahead to the Dutch Brass Band Championships on November 4, 2023 in Utrecht.
